Want to change your name?

We're now allowing name changes for people, but there's one particular rule that's very important:

WE WILL ONLY ALLOW YOU TO CHANGE YOUR NAME TWICE

Okay, it used to be once, I know, but after being asked by a couple people to change their name one more time myself and another admin saw no harm of changing the rule since barely anyone has asked to change their name and it hasn't been a huge issue. But understand this, we are not going to allow for any more changes after twice because then it just becomes annoying. If you're horrified by your second choice after a month, too bad, you can reregister at the site and reset your post count, I simply will not change your name.

Secondly, and please keep this in mind, after you change your name once and you ask to change it a second time, we will not change it back to the original. In fact I'll personally reject any requests that look too similar to the original name. We want you to think about the name you're changing to and to make sure it's a name you want to stick with before you ask us to change.

If you don't understand what that means, let's say I wanted to change my name to G. Digital Wozzer Silk (don't ask), once I change it, I'm stuck with that for good. We won't allow you to change back if you decide you don't like the name, it's your new name and you're keeping it. But now you're allowed to select a third, different name, but that name is final. Pick something you like or forever be stuck with something you dread.

Anyway, not much special about it, it's really quite simple to figure out. Post here if you'd really like to change your name and we'll keep this thread updated so people that change their names are listed so you can recognize them, as well as our way of knowing who's already changed their name.

Hm...after much thought, I have decided to have my name changed to just, "Church."

Actually, this new ability was originally mostly intended for people who have one of the following situations:

1) They registered adding an extra number or whatnot onto their name (like Aremid23) and now want to shorten it. Often, this is a result of being forced to register with extra numbers at sites like 1up.com, gamers.com or hotmail, since it seems anything even remotely regular is already taken.

2) They registered with a different name here, but they are known as something else everywhere else they go. Zephyr79 was Grizza at gamers.com, is Grizza at 1up.com, and so it's no surprise he wants to be that over here for consistency purposes.

Think hard before you completely change your username, because it can cause a lot of confusion. Church, if you really want to drop the RvB, that's cool, because people will still recognize you and call you Church anyway. For complete name changes, you might want to put something in your signature or location.

Did I start something by asking Buns in a PM to change mine? If I did, sorry.

The main reason I wanted mine changed was to match my Xbox Live gamertag, which is "aremid". I'm still known as "aremid23" at 1up, but since I've all but stopped going there, I don't care. I registered as "aremid" at the NES forum that Ebo recommended to me and that is actually when I got the idea.

Since this is the main board I frequent and because my XBL gamertag is "aremid", I thought it'd be cool to have them match. Plus, I just think "aremid" looks better without the "23". I think I'm gonna go for gold and just change my real name to "aremid". Hehehe

Simply put, I know I don't want to take the time to both go in and change someone's name every two days because they realized they didn't like what they asked to have it changed to and also deal with all the posts asking, "Who's _____?"

By enforcing a name change being allowed only once it makes people seriously think about it since they won't be able to change it once they finally decide on something.

WizzleWoobl0r, what's the deal with my name? I changed it the other day to SeñorSP and it actually stayed. I logged on today and found that it was SenorSP. :O Did it reset itself back to Soul_Pole er something? Was it SP the whole time but I was seeing the wrong name?
