At the movies in March
Alice In Wonderland
This movie was a mess, apart from the asides that took time to focus on peripheral characters; the movie was a jarring experience with bad characterization and a script & story that felt like little more than a slideshow of shameless references. I also LOVE how Disney seems to have a formula for depicting engagements between entire armies as ridiculously theatrical battles of attrition with no semblance of planning or tactics. As mentioned above, the movie sees its best parts when it takes detours, namely the ones that showcase Burton's BFFs Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter. They're both great here, even if Depp seems to be fusing Jack Sparrow and Willy Wonka. I wish I had stayed home, the blandness of this movie actually affected my sleep. Two side notes: -I loved Cheshire Cat and the March Hare. -Maybe the Theater needed a better quality projector, but the 3D in this movie hurt my eyes on 5 or 6 occasions. NOT ONCE did this happen when I saw Avatar in the same theater.

RE: At the movies in March
Alice In Wonderland (2D) - Like Sonic said, it was pretty much a mess. Their were a few parts I enjoyed like Cheshire Cat, but overall it was nothing like I thought it would be. The audience seemed to feel the same way. At least me and my friends were laughing and joking around during the movie trying to make it at least funny.
And I posted these in the wrong thread... Your Friends & Neighbors - An early film that Ben Stiller was in, had to watch it for my Argument and Persuasion class. Very interesting movie about sex and how a bunch of friends deal with sex and cheating so on. It had an interesting cast with Amy Brenneman, Aaron Eckhart, Catherine Keener, Nastassja Kinski, Jason Patric and as I said, Ben Stiller. It was worth watching once. Equus - Very good movie that deals with sexuality and religion. I know the theater performance was huge when the guy from Harry Potter was in it, because of the nude scene with the horse. I felt the film really got into your mind and made you think, which was enjoyable. A must see for anyone in religion and psychology. last.fm |

RE: At the movies in March
Moving these over from the Feb thread.
A Clockwork Orange - I liked it a lot. Music really added to it too, like with 2001. Bug - I didn't like it, in fact I think it was stupid, ridiculous, and Iwant to say... pretentious. The Woods - I'm not a big horror fan, but this held my attention. Brideshead Revisited - I usually don't like this genre of films either, but I thought it was really good and well acted. Waiting - This is a pretty mediocre movie, but I just find it entertaining, maybe because I worked in a restaurant before. |

RE: At the movies in March
Alice in Wonderland - Was not a fan. Not a bad movie, but a solid 'meh.' And Johnny Depp's dance at the end was the stupidest waste of time ever. It almost swayed my opinion to hatred.
EDIT: Not to mention that movie is the biggest waste of time for 3D effects. I had no choice BUT to pay the extra money, and there was not a single justifiable moment of 3D footage. Boo. IGN Collection 2006 http://users.ign.com/collection/GoldenKnightHT GK's 2010 List of Gaming Prowess |

RE: At the movies in March
Hot Rod: It's amazing I hadn't seen this yet as I've loved everything the guys have done since Awesometown. So of course I loved Hot Rod. Cool Beans.
Be Kind, Rewind: Even if I smoked whatever it is that Michel Gondry smokes, I still probably wouldn't get his movies. I liked this one... I think. There Will Be Blood: ![]() Year One: Yeah, this would probably have been a good movie in 1987 and we'd all look back on it with great nostalgia now. Doesn't really work so well now, though. Dead Snow: Had been looking forward to this for awhile, was kind of a letdown. It was alright but it was like they tried to be campy. Shaun of the Dead made me actually care about characters in a "horror" movie, this is another movie where I'm happy that the people are dying. Bloggin' |

The Seventh Seal
First time I'd ever seen it Jeez what a fucking contrast to Alice in Wonderland, Celebrated B&W 1956 Sweedish Movie / Film Critic's jizz-rag with constructed sets VS SubPar mess of an movie presented in 3D with CGed eyes, legs, and backgrounds. Great Film if you can watch old movies in subtitles. Amazing how much depth a 97 minute movie can have.

RE: At the movies in March
2012 - One of the worst movies I've ever seen. Bad dialogue, bad acting, one gratuitous destruction scene after another, everything that's wrong with movies today. I could probably write paragraphs on what was wrong with this movie but it's not worth it.

RE: At the movies in March
I wish John Cusack would stop acting. If he'd stopped after High Fidelity, that would've been perfect.

RE: At the movies in March
He's actually not bad in it I thought, but yeah I don't get why he'd take a part like this. He probably thought it'd be a big hit and hell it probably was. We'll always have Say Anything though right?

RE: At the movies in March
I liked Alice in Wonderland. Maybe people are just overthinking things.
Which seems to be a trend nowadays.

I find it odd that someone in this generation who smokes and drinks has not seen Big Lebowski yet.
Odd, not impossible.

RE: At the movies in March
Well I tried to buy it a few times over the last 5 years or so. I only saw it once and it was $45, and I said fuck it for a movie I never seen. I just downloaded it now.
People think there is some weird culture that goes along with smoking weed. Up here in Canada everyone smokes weed so weird stoner stereotypes don't really apply to us.

Sure they do, I know plenty of people that act like the stereotypical stoner.
