THE BASEBALL THREAD
.. Baseball season starts with the Yankees vs. Red Sox on Sunday. I don't think I've ever been this excited for baseball season to start, seeing how the Red Sox won the World Series, the Yanks are looking for some revenge. Enough Yankees-Red Sox talk, here's my predictions for the '05 season:

AL East
Yankees - My unbiased pick Wink

AL Central
Twins - They have some solid pitching with Johan Santana, and some nice bats with Tori Hunter

AL West
Los Angeles Angles of Anaheim of the World of the Universe - I see no other team standing a chance against the Angels. Solid hitting could take the Angels far into the playoffs.

Wildcard
Red Sox. Just because they won't win the AL East. Ever. Big Grin

------------

NL East
Braves. Seriously, who picks against the Braves? Now with Smoltz back along with Timmy Hudson, the Braves should be one of the favorites to win the National League

Central
Cardinals. Pujols, Edmonds, Walker, and Rolen lead an awesome hitting team. The only question is: will they have the pitching to take them to the World Series?

West
Dodgers. This is a harry division, each team is lacking some kind of talent. I'm going with the Dodgers simply because Barry Bonds is out until the All-Star break.

Wildcard
Marlins. With the addition of a nice left handed hitter in Carlos Delgado, the Marlins have a very nice starting line up with Lowell and co.

Playoffs
ALCS
Yankees over Red Sox. One word: revenge.

NLCS
Braves over Marlins. The Braves will overwhelm the Marlins with pitching, to lead them to the World Series.

World Series
Yankees over Braves. I tried not to be biased as possible, but I really do think the Yanks will win it. A great starting line up, should be an awesome rotation with Randy Johnson leading the charge.

------------
There's my preview, let's hear the predictions. Smile

I predict that the Tigers are gonna fuck up all your predictions...

Maybe I’ll never die
I’ll just keep growing younger with you
And you’ll grow younger too
now it seems too lovely to be true
but I know the best things always do

Braves in World Series?! Considering how often they do get to the postseason, they're some of the biggest chokers around.

My picks. I'm normally quite awful at this.

AL East -
Yankees. Assuming that the injury bug doesn't bite in a big way, they've got too much talent to finish behind Boston.

AL Central -
Twinkies. (with Indians a close second). It'd be foolish to bet against them. Solid gloves and pitching staff.

AL West -
Angels. They were the best team from the division last year, and with the addition of Steve Finley, things are only looking up.

Wildcard-
Boston. Duh.
------

NL East -
Braves (Marlins a close second). Smoltz and Hudson in the starting lineup aren't going to hurt their chances.

NL Central -
Cards. They didn't get any better from last year, but they still have enough talent to keep afloat. Assuming that pitching staff doesn't collapse.

NL West -
Giants. It's a weak division, and they'll stick around .500 and close to the division lead by the All-Star Break. It's then they'll get Bonds back (he is coming back, trust me), and they'll pull away from the rest.

NL Wildcard -
Astros. Best starting five in the NL, and after following their Spring, I honestly believe they have some really talented kids coming up. Remember this name: Luke Scott. Acquired from Indians, he's hitting near .400 with 6 HR's and 18 RBI's in the Spring. He's a beast.

World Series -
Astros over Yankees. Roger Clemens beats Yankees in the Yankee Stadium in Game Seven. I can dream, can't I?

Ah! My two year baseball thread streak!

Anyhoo, I'm going for Boston, Twins, Oakland. Oakland will win 95 games even if their ace is Tim Belcher. Which he isn't. Wildcard Yankees of course.

Then we have Mets, Astros, Dodgers. WildCardinals.

WS: Oh fuck, Astros lose to Boston in 5

I hate the way the baseball playoffs are set up. As long as the Yankees and Red Sox have good teams, the Blue Jays will NEVER make the playoffs, even if they (by some miracle) come in third in the American League. I have no reason to care for baseball if my team doesnt stand a chance of making it anywhere.

boston shall win...again!

Before I spoke in riddles, I was worried someone would hear me
Now I know that no one really listens so I will just speak clearly
I don't have private thoughts, just a lyrical worksheet
For mangling my observations on the meter and the beat
And in the process of it, on every line
Sooner or later I'll have to change the meaning to fit the rhyme

I predict I'll be attending the Mariners game next Sunday, sitting on the first base side, and drinking beer. How's that?

1 down, 25 more games to go against the Sox. I predict the usual ,but you can only predict it down to one game and after that all bets are off. I say Yankees/Sox game 7 fiasco yet again. Who will win? I say the Yanks of course, but its anyone's guess. As for the rest I would say Twins in the NL Central, Angels in the West, Sox in the WC. Oh, and Yankees in the east. As for the NL I got the Braves in the East, Cubs in the central(I know, Im nuts) and the Dodgers in the west only because I don't like the Giants. WC goes to the Marlins(sorry Mets).
